ITEMS TO TAKE WITH YOU WHEN YOU PICK UP YOUR CHILD

This is the suggested list of items for families to take when traveling overseas to pick up their child. If you can think of something not on this list that you found to be valuable, please add your suggestions..

DON'T FORGET TO TAKE A DICTIONARY OR PHRASE BOOK UNLESS YOU ARE FLUENT IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE!

For the parents:

1. Aspirin or non aspirin products

2. Prescription for Lomotil (or Pepto Bismo) in case you have some bad water or food.

3. Any other prescriptions which you need on a regular basis.

4. Flashlight and batteries

5. Appropriate clothing - seasons may be reserved from ours if you are going south of the ecuator.

6. Electrical currency converter (find out what the local currency is: ie: 220 volt, 60 cycle) or appliances (blow dryers, razors, etc) that operate on dual currency.

For the child:

!. Formula - soy is best since many third world babies have a lactose intolerance and cannot handle the richness of our milk forumlas - experiment when you get home and have your own pediatrician to advise you. 8 oz. ready-to-feed is easiest. DON'T FORGET YOUR CAN OPENER.

2. Disposable bottles since sterilization will be difficult in a hotel.

3. Liquid non-aspirin

4. Rectal (or digital for underarm) thermometer

5. Disposable diapers

6. Baby food (powdered) if child is old enough, don't forget a baby spoon.

7. Liquid vitamins (with fluoride if your physician will give the prescription)

8. Clothing is cheap and usually available so it is not necessary to buy a lot of clothes here to take (beside the foreign labels make good memories)

9. Infant seat or snuggly

10. Collapsible stroller

11. Ointment for diaper rash (most seem to have rashes)

12. Baby wipes

13. Infant hygiene products (In most major South American cities, Johnson and Johnson products are available such as soap, shampoo, etc.)
